Response Bias

A tendency for participants to answer in a certain way regardless of the question's content.

Response bias occurs when answers are systematically influenced by factors unrelated to the construct (e.g., desire to please adults, leading wording, or fatigue). In child surveys, bias can arise from tone, visuals, or classroom dynamics.

Mitigation strategies include neutral prompts, forced-choice items, standardized audio, and minimizing classroom cues. Watch for acquiescence bias in agree/disagree formats.
